Ophthalmology Practice Seeking Full-Time/ or Part-Time staff member to work as Ophthalmic Medical Assistant for a practice in Jackson Heights,Queens -NY to start immediately.
We are looking for an individual that is a self-starter and detail oriented with excellent communication skills. We are a technology driven practice and looking for someone with superior computer skills.
Job duties will Include: Show eagerness and ability to learn. Front Desk responsibilities such as: Patient check in/checkout, insurance eligibility verification, patient responsibility estimates, completing and verifying information provided by patient (s) and confirming correct data in the EHR, assist in managing office staff and patient appointment schedules, surgical scheduling, appointment confirmations, etc
Medical Assistant responsibilities: Take patient history and work-up. Do diagnostic testing including, Auto-refraction, Lensometer, IOP check, OPTOS fundus photography, Visual Field, OCT, and ultrasound.
Ideal candidate must have strong customer service skills, have ability to multitask, and be a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced medical office environment. Front desk scheduling and phone tasks are required but not the focus for this role.

Job Summary

- Performs a variety of medical office secretarial and clerical duties and some administrative tasks which require knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Assists physicians, and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties.
- Perform diagnostic testing, visual acuity testing and obtain history for patients.
- Surgical scheduling and counseling
Responsibilities:
- Schedules patient appointments, answers general questions, obtains authorizations and pre-authorizations for patient care services.
- Schedules appointments with ancillary departments or other care providers as needed.
- Maintains master calendar for physician(s).
- Completes required paperwork or documentation.
- Processes insurance forms and maintains logs.
- Coordinates submission of appropriate charges to billing department.
- Inserts results into patient charts and upload results.
- Files charts according to established procedures.
- Reads and prioritizes incoming mail.
- Provides assistance in the day-to-day administration of department.
- Establishes and maintains files and records.
- Oversees equipment and office supply inventories and initiates or approves service requests and supply orders.
- Administers diagnostic tests.
- Conducts tests to determine intraocular pressure.
- Administers topical medications.
- Visual acuity testing
- Performs patient intakes and documents detailed history.
- Reviews patient medical history, surgical history, medications, and allergies.
- Assists patients with fitting contact lenses.
- Assists physicians in performing procedures.
- Maintains instruments or equipment.
- Measures and records lens power.
- Measures distance and near visual acuity using appropriate tests.
- Operates equipment as necessary.
- Administers diagnostic tests.
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.
- Cleans treatment rooms following patient examinations.
- Interviews patients to obtain their medical history.
- Records patient medical history, vital statistics, and test results in patient medical files.
- Purchases and maintains supplies and equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes medical equipment and instruments.
- Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Assists physicians during examination by handing over instruments and materials.

Job Qualifications
Education:
Preferred: 4-year Undergraduate Degree, equivalent foreign schooling or working towards graduation. Acceptable: Associate or some college or equivalent or vocational education and training, certification as a medical assistant (CMA) or medical billing and coding with 1-4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For pre-health student applicants, opportunities for mentorship, research involvement, and letters of recommendation are available but are contingent upon the full and successful completion of your employment commitment.
Experience: Prior experience is recommended but not necessary depending on level of education.
