Job DescriptionSalary: $25-$35 Hourly

The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)Field Technician will be responsible for ITS field device installation, integration, and testing as well as remedial and preventative maintenance activities for the Blue Water Bridge and Mackinac Bridge sites along with various freeway locations in St. Clair County.


This position will work out of Integral Blues Auburn Hills, Michigan office and will require regular overnight/weekly travel to locations throughout Michigans lower peninsula and upper peninsula; potential out of state travel may also be required. Integral Blue provides ITS Field Technicians with proper tools and equipment. This position will be provided with a take-home company vehicle and is eligible for paid drive time according to company policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and isolates issues with ITS equipment, access control systems, and network infrastructure. Troubleshoots faults in copper-wired, fiber-optic, and wireless communication systems supporting ITS and access control devices. Responds to emergency service calls related to ITS, access control, audio-visual (AV) systems, and network issues.
  • Repair. Performs corrective repairs on ITS field devices, access control hardware (e.g., card readers, door controllers), and AV components. Restores functionality to systems after equipment failure, environmental damage, or communication loss.
  • Testing. Tests ITS, access control, and AV systems using diagnostic tools such as multi-meters, network/spectrum analyzers, and personal computers (PC). Performs acceptance testing and quality verification on new installations and repaired systems. Verifies proper operation of workstations, internet protocol (IP) based devices, and end-user AV equipment (e.g., monitors, speakers, microphones).
  • Installation. Installs ITS, access control, and AV components per engineered drawings, construction plans, and manufacturer specifications. Interprets schematics, network topology, as-built drawings, and interconnect wiring for system deployment and integration.
  • Preventative Maintenance. Conducts preventative maintenance on ITS equipment, access control hardware, AV systems, and supporting infrastructure. Performs firmware updates, cleans and calibrates field devices, and verifies equipment status in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Equipment Operation. Operates a variety of motorized equipment including aerial lifts, bucket trucks, and other service vehicles to access and service elevated or hard-to-reach systems. Operates truck-mounted attenuator (TMA) vehicles to support safe work zone operations.
  • Traffic Control Support. Assists with work zone traffic control setup and breakdown in compliance with local, state, and customer-specific safety standards. Selects and deploys appropriate traffic control devices such as cones, signage, arrow boards, and barriers based on job site requirements.
  • General Technical Support. Provides basic PC support including workstation setup, network connectivity, and peripheral device configuration. Assists with troubleshooting and maintenance of Windows-based systems and software applications used in ITS and access control environments.


Qualifications Required

  • Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in electronics troubleshooting and repair, electrical wiring theory, principles, and practices.
  • Must have experience in telecommunications industry including but not limited to system installation, circuit design and flow standards, and troubleshooting.
  • Must have experience using test equipment, such as but not limited to network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, multi meters, and ground fault locators.
  • Must have ability to obtain a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Must have ability to complete an OSHA 10 Hour Safety Training program, and obtain an OSHA 10-Hour Safety Card.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a confined space; walk, bend, and lift, up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to move, carry and climb ladders at various heights.
  • Must be able to perform aerial vehicle operations and work at various heights up to 100 feet.
  • Must be able to perform under bridge (UB) aerial work and reach-all ladder/platform aerial work (equipment to be operated by others).
  • Must be able to climb bridge steel/concrete at extended heights utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be computer proficient and have experience with Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be available to work overtime and some weekends (as needed).
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to work extended hours (as needed).
  • Must be able to work in a secure environment that requires full confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and background checks.
  • Must have a Valid drivers license and a safe driving record.



Qualifications Desired

  • Experience with various access control and alarm systems along with troubleshooting respective devices and end-of-line (EOL) circuits.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Technology.
  • Ability to analyze construction plan sets, as-built drawings, schematics, and interconnect drawings of electrical and communication systems.
  • Industry recognized Internet Protocol (IP) network and cyber security certifications.
  • Industry recognized wireless communication certifications.
  • Industry recognized structured cabling installation certifications.
  • Industry recognized Fiber Optic certifications.
  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
