Senior Media Engineer (Overnight Shift)
Location: Onsite – Bristol, CT
Schedule: Sunday–Tuesday, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM; Wednesday, 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Duration: 2-Year Contract
Pay Rate: $70-75/hour
About the Role:
A global leader in media and entertainment is seeking a Senior Media Engineer to support and enhance the systems that power the acquisition, production, and distribution of live and on-demand content. This is a hands-on overnight role that plays a critical part in ensuring world-class video and audio quality across linear and digital platforms.
Working at the intersection of software and hardware, the Senior Media Engineer will manage IPTV upgrades, support RF and transmission systems, and troubleshoot a range of media technologies across studio environments. The engineer will also help sustain and evolve infrastructure that supports studio control rooms, post-production, playout, and distribution systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform overnight upgrades of IPTV systems across the production campus.
- Support RF and video/audio transmission systems and related project work.
- Ensure high availability and operational excellence of broadcast and media production environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 2/3 escalations related to software, hardware, IP-based workflows, and cloud services.
- Monitor system health, respond to incidents, apply patches, and support upgrades across production infrastructure.
- Contribute to preventative maintenance and sustainment of systems such as playout servers, consoles, robotics, switchers, encoders, and more.
- Work closely with engineering leadership on capital planning, long-term strategy, and infrastructure documentation.
- Support vendor relationships and enforce service level agreements with contractors, freelancers, and technical partners.
- Mentor junior staff and provide guidance across a variety of systems and workflows.
- Participate in design-build projects that advance business and technology goals.
This is a high-impact role supporting a globally recognized media brand. Candidates must be local to Bristol, CT and available to work overnight shifts onsite.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in media engineering, broadcast operations, or content distribution.
- Proven ability to sustain and troubleshoot studio systems and live production environments.
- Strong understanding of SDI and IP-based video/audio workflows, including ST 2110, ST 2022-7, ST 292M, and related SMPTE standards.
- Hands-on experience with Evertz systems (VistaLink, Magnum, VLPRO, SDVN, VIP, VUE).
- Advanced experience with RF distribution, satellite, fiber, and coordinated receiver decoders (IRDs).
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and at least one foundational cloud certification.
- Experience with video compression standards (MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, JPEG XS).
- Strong skills in AutoCAD and reading/interpreting technical drawings.
- Ability to work with microservices, DevOps tools, and modern media architectures.
- Experience with media asset management, transcoding, graphics systems, NAS/SAN storage, and production control platforms (Imagine, Ross, Grass Valley, Avid, Adobe, VizRT, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Experience working in high-volume, fast-paced live production environments.
- Knowledge of Nielsen NACAT, VANC, Linear Acoustics, and other signal monitoring systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with AWS tools (S3, EC2, Glacier) and hybrid media workflows.
- Ability to climb ladders, access elevated workspaces, and operate aerial lift platforms.
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or NodeJS are a plus.
