Building Automation Systems Field Engineer
Location: Various Field Locations (Mostly within 25-30 miles of Joliet, IL)
Permanent/Direct Hire
- Field locations will mostly be within 25-30 miles of Joliet, IL.
- Hours are 7am-3:30pm.
- Vehicle, all tools, computer, cell phone, etc will be supplied.

Our client is hiring a Field Engineer for a permanent, full-time opportunity supporting on-site engineering and controls verification for mechanical and electrical systems. This is an ideal position for someone early in their technical career who is eager to learn, grow, and develop hands-on experience in the field.
The Field Engineer will be responsible for point-to-point checkout, verification, system troubleshooting, and project documentation. The role includes significant time on-site at client locations, working directly with senior engineers, project managers, and supervisors to ensure quality control and accuracy in project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed point-to-point checkout of mechanical and electrical systems
- Complete verification documentation and project-specific checkout books
- Accurately log locations, calibration details, and hardware verification results
- Communicate daily with project team leadership (PMs, Engineers, Supervisors)
- Troubleshoot site issues and escalate when needed
- Maintain daily logs, including completed work, obstacles, and contractor interferences
- Review and understand project scope, submittals, mechanical drawings, and specs
- Identify potential change orders and report to supervisors
- Follow company standards for communication, appearance, safety, and conduct
Requirements:
- Building automation experience
- Johnson controls experience highly preferred but not required
- Technical certificate, associate's degree, or relevant experience in mechanical/electrical systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and project documentation
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Willingness to work on-site for the majority of the workweek
- Basic troubleshooting skills with an eagerness to learn more
- Strong communication and follow-through
- Reliable transportation for travel to/from project sites
- Must be eligible to participate in on-call rotation after 6 months
