POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical Engineering Department Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the engineering team and ensuring that all projects are carried out efficiently and meet the highest standards of quality. This position is responsible for resource allocation, strategic planning, and facilitating a collaborative environment to encourage innovation and professional growth among team members. This position will develop and implement engineering processes and will be accountable for ensuring the delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients and all stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Oversee project management activities, including planning, execution, and monitoring of engineering projects to include complex projects from the FEL (Front End Loading) stages through detailed design, manage RFQs, and make critical decisions in equipment selection.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering efforts align with organizational goals.
- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Allocates department resources to assure effective utilization.
- Coordinate Mechanical/HVAC projects with MEP teams and other disciplines to ensure timely completion
- Review/approve scopes, budgets and schedules
- Develop strategic plans to include one, three and five year objectives and goals.
- Assess project/financial performance
- Oversee the preparation of construction drawings/specifications
- Build and maintain client relationships and assist with business development
- Responsible for quality control activities and may serve as Quality Reviewer for selected projects.
- Develops and administers infrastructure improvements to enhance department and company performance.
- Networks with professional organizations, suppliers, consultants, etc. to stay abreast of industry developments.
- Provides engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience including project management or technical leadership of construction related MEP projects.
- Technical proficiency in mechanical engineering principles to include experience working with commercial or industrial projects.
- Experienced in facility infrastructure engineering, design, and construction projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, project management, and team leadership.
- Demonstrated proficiency in engineering discipline.
- Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective leadership of department members.
- Proficient in project management tools and processes, including Deltek VantagePoint or similar project software.
- Skilled at managing customer relations to ensure that customer needs are met.
- Demonstrated presentation skills.
- Represent the company in a professional matter.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others and build strategic partnerships.
- Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
- Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel
Preferred
- Mechanical PE registration is preferred.
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Working Conditions
- Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
