POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Serves as head lifeguard/shift supervisor as assigned by the Aquatics Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
- Provides supervision of staff when management is not in the facility.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area and helps mentor lifeguard in rule enforcement and swim test administration.
- The position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and throughout the shift, responds and corrects hazards when able or reports immediately to supervisor.
- Performs pool chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action as needed to correct inconsistencies.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs assigned tasks or has specific responsibilities in a supervisory/head lifeguard capacity as assigned by the Aquatic Director or supervisor.
- Attends monthly in-service training and YMCA mandatory staff meetings.
- Responsible for securing substitute head lifeguard and reporting any schedule changes to the director in a timely manner.
- Adheres to all YMCA of Montclair policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and best practices, including emergency and safety procedures, supporting the associations’ philanthropy efforts.
- Cooperates and interacts with members, staff, program participants, and volunteers in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.
- Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or ARC Lifeguard Certifications and Basic Life Support (CPR), AED, Basic First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA or ARC standards.
- Complete Bloodborne pathogens annually.
- Maintain all required certifications (active)
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard skills assessment and water test.
- Must be able to remain alert.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for water rescue.
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
- loud situations.
- Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, wet and inclement weather conditions)
- Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds.

- 4:45 AM – 12:00 PM
- 4:45 AM – 11:00 AM
- 4:45 AM – 9:00 AM
OR
Option 2: Tuesday and Thursday
- 4:45 AM – 12:00 PM
- 4:45 AM – 11:00 AM
- 4:45 AM – 9:00 AM
HOURLY PAY RATE: $18.50-$21.50
