Tennis Pro

Department: Decatur Parks and Recreation

FSLA: Part Time

Starting Hourly Rate: $16 USD


Position Summary:

This position is a supervisory position responsible for tennis programs. Work involves the developing, administering, and supervising a comprehensive center-based community recreation program and managing center staff.

The list of duties, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrates effective performance by successfully organizing and managing multiple assignments, projects, and priorities within established deadlines
  • Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and progress of work activities to the Tennis Supervisor.
  • Implements programs to meet budget revenue and expenditure goals.
  • Resolves the patrons’ concerns, conflicts, and problems, ensuring that services are provided in professionally and safely.
  • Demonstrates accountability for delivering quality services and work products as a part of the overall department and Citywide strategic direction, goals and objectives.
  • Organizes, maintains, and submits administrative records and reports for both personnel and participants, including but not limited to, attendance records, evaluation forms, and incident/accident reports.
  • Effectively manages self through the independent initiation and accomplishment of tasks.
  • Administer programs including, but not limited to, beginner youth tennis, intermediate/advanced youth tennis, adult beginner tennis, adult drills, and adult round robins.
  • Collaborate with Tennis Supervisor to create lesson plans and programs.
  • Teaches private lessons, group lessons, provides team instruction, and runs drills to players of all ages and ability levels. Time on court should be weighted towards groups, teams, and drill sessions.
  • Provide private, group, and team lessons.
  • Provide hitting sessions for patrons.
  • Assist customers with equipment recommendations as needed.
  • Ability to string tennis racquets as needed.
  • Assist with pro shop sales and court bookings
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, or experience in related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience teaching tennis lessons professionally, or equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license (class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  • CPR, First Aid, and Prevent Child Abuse certifications or the ability to obtain within six months is preferred.
  • United States Professional Tennis Association (USTPA) and/or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Certification are preferred.
  • UTR rating of 6.0 or higher

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for long periods.
  • Can lift and carry heavy objects (10-50 lbs.) sit, bend, squat, and twist daily; must be able to physically operate city vehicle.
  • Have the ability to sit for long periods using office equipment and computers.
  • Have the ability to walk and stand outdoors (playgrounds and parks) setting including the pool while in extreme heat and cold for up to 8 hours daily.
  • Have a personal vehicle to drive for daily business on a mileage reimbursement basis.
  • Must deal with constant interruptions, noise, and meet with others on a regularly.
  • The employee may be exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, climb, and perform repetitive motions on a daily.
  • Ability to operate computer software, including word processing software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio.
