A well-established and active real estate development and management company has an excellent career opportunity for an energetic and dynamic individual to join our team as Real Estate Counsel. This position requires litigation experience and familiarity with development, construction and landlord/tenant law. The candidate must be able to define and distill complex legal issues, identify and evaluate legal and business risks and recommend courses of action. The Real Estate Counsel will report directly to the owner of the firm. Occasional travel to the New York metropolitan area will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • General Company Matters
    • Actively work to make sure that company is positioned to succeed in litigation and advise on legal matters.
    • Manage and work with outside counsel regarding various other company matters.
    • Assist with duties and projects as directed by the owner and work with all departments in the company, including acquisition, development, accounting, IT, and marketing on various legal issues and general compliance.
    • Create and monitor legal entities.
  • Financing
    • Assist with all aspects of financings, including drafting and negotiating agreements and facilitating closings.
  • Commercial Leasing
    • Draft and negotiate leases, license agreements and amendments with commercial tenants.
  • Development
    • Assist development team in legal matters that arise during various stages of development projects.
  • Litigation
    • Manage various litigations handled by outside counsel.

Qualifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in Florida;
  • 10+ years of legal experience with a background in commercial real estate;
  • Experience working in the legal department of a commercial real estate firm or in a medium-to-large sized law firm;
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills;
  • Legal research skills;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to professionalism, integrity, collegiality and the ability to work on a wide range of legal matters;
  • Must be an independent, self-directed, organized and diligent worker and able to work with minimal supervision;
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities;
  • Must have strong PC skills with Microsoft Office (especially Word and Outlook);
  • Able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to resources available;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
  • Must be able to anticipate problems and issues and exercise independent judgment to make solid, justifiable legal decisions and take action in solving problems while knowing when and to whom to escalate issues.
